Holy Week

Holy Week is the commemoration and celebration of the last week of Jesus’ life.  At LGUMC, we have multiple, diverse worship services to help you join in Christian community and relive these experiences as Christ’s contemporary witnesses.

PALM SUNDAY – We’ll begin on Sunday, March 29 with a joyous Palm Sunday Processional led by our children.  Then we will recount the final events of Jesus’ life, as experienced by some of the week’s key witnesses.  The service will include scripture, music, communion, handwashing and dramatic monologues that revisit moments from Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his death upon a cross.

HOLY THURSDAY – We’ll gather on Thursday, April 2 in the sanctuary at 7 PM to share in a simple service of communion and footwashing.   This service will be quiet and contemplative with music, prayer, scripture and an emphasis on Christ’s call for us to love one another through acts of service.

GOOD FRIDAY  services will be held on Friday, April 3, in the sanctuary at 7 PM.  We’ll recount the events of Christ’s last day. This service of music, prayer and candlelight will help us remember exactly why Easter is so unexpected and joyous.

EASTER, April 5, celebrations begin with the sunrise in the Sunken Garden at 6:30 AM, as we share the good news: Christ is Alive!  Celebrations continue with our traditional service at 9:15 with music from the Chancel Choir and our traditional Hallelujah Chorus benediction.  At 11:00, our Open House Praise Band will lead a contemporary worship experience filled with music, laugher and the abundant new life we celebrate on this holy day.

Share the journey with Christ and experience God’s gift of new life!
