SESQUICENTENNIAL

Los Gatos United Methodist Church, celebrating its 150th birthday in 2016, is not only Los Gatos’ oldest church – it is actually the oldest continuously operating organization of any kind in Los Gatos.

LGUMC began as a truly grassroots, community effort. Folks would gather under the oak tree on what is now called Church Street. The circuit riding preacher (who also served the towns of Alma and Lexington that are now submerged under Lexington Dam), would ride in on horseback. A lot has changed over 150 years, but LGUMC has not lost its community focus or pioneering spirit.
