Position Title: Director of Children’s Ministries

Location: Los Gatos First United Methodist Church (LGUMC), 111 Church Street, Los Gatos, California 95030

Hours/Week: 15-20

Annual Compensation: $15,450

Reports To/Supervisor: Pastor

HR Authority: Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)

Job Description:

The Director of Children’s Ministry provides leadership, direction, training, support, and oversight for all Children’s Ministry programs serving children from infancy through 5th grade. This position works closely with and reports to the Pastor and is responsible for developing and implementing programs that nurture the spiritual development of children. 

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in the nurturing of children in a Christian leadership role

  • Ability to communicate with children and youth in an educational environment

  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing educational curriculum and programs

  • Capability to develop volunteer resources in a learning environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead an inviting and engaging Sunday School program that is both educational and fun for children

  • Provide leadership and oversight for Children’s Ministry volunteers and adult workers

  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers in compliance with church safety and legal guidelines

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate faith educational programs

  • Procure curriculum, seasonal materials, and supplies, including items for children as they enter worship

  • Communicate regularly about upcoming children’s ministries events, including monthly updates for the church website (lgumc.org), The Spire, and/or e-blasts

  • Attend church staff meetings as schedule permits

  • Support Youth Ministry activities, such as annual Confirmation, in collaboration with the Pastor and other volunteers

  • Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in developing new children’s programs as opportunities arise, responding prayerfully to the needs of children and families (e.g., seasonal events such as an Easter Egg Hunt that may include Grace Preschool)
